The tenth Jatra festival began at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Monday.
This year’s festival, which will run for two days, features performances by a total of nine Jatra troupes from across the country.
A three-member jury panel will review the performances and register the deserving troupes.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has been organising the Jatra festival since 2012 to streamline the registration process for Jatra troupes under the Jatra Development Regulation 2012.
In the previous editions of the festival, a total of 106 Jatra troupes from across the country have registered with the academy, which also cancelled registrations of 15 troupes.
On the opening day, four troupes namely Khulna-based Banani Opera, Jessore-based The Caesars Jatra Unit, Dhaka-based Ekota Opera and Dhaka-based Shikha Natyagosthi performed at the festival.
Five Jatra troupes namely Dhamrai-based Pragati Natya Sangstha, Kurigram-based Lovely Shilpi Gosthi, Kushtia-based Nobhoprobhat Opera, Netrokona-based Shobuj Bangla Jatra Unit and Jamalpur-based Sonar Bangla Jatra Unit will perform at the festival today.
The festival is open to visitors from 2:30pm till 8:10pm.
