A woman of the Garo minority community was reportedly gang raped by two young men at village Kharamora in Sribardi upazila of Sherpur.
Police arrested one of the accused — Arfan Ali, 35, son of Mafizul Haque of village Balijuri in the upazila.
Victim’s family members claimed Arfan Ali and his accomplice entered the woman’s house by introducing themselves as law enforcers.
They later tied her up with a piece of cloth and raped in turns.
Hearing the victim scream, nextdoor neighbours rushed in and managed to catch Arfan and handed him over to the police while the other accused fled the scene.
Officer-in-charge of Sribardi police station Mohammad Ruhul Amin Talukdar said that Arfan had been produced at court where the police sought three days in their custody to quiz him after the victim filed a case.
The victim had been sent to the hospital for medical examination, the OC added.
