Gas shortage in Dhaka city improved slightly on Friday as gas transmission from the national grid increased.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited officials told New Age that they got no complaint from consumers on the weekend. Titas director (operation) Md Kamruzzaman Khan said that the distribution utility had received 1650mmcfd gas on Thursday, which was 150mmcfd higher than the supply of Tuesday.
From Wednesday night, the authorities concerned started suspending gas supply to fertiliser factories and power plants to increase gas supply for the domestic consumers. Residents of Farmgate, Shewrapara, Rupnagar, Basabo, Badda, Mohammadpur, Dhanmandi, Purana Paltan, Jatrabari and adjacent areas said that the gas crisis improved on Friday comparing to the situation of the previous two days.
Gas consumers in Dhaka and Chattogram cities had been suffering acute gas shortage since Saturday due to technical glitch in the gas supply line of Floating Storage Regasification Unit at Moheshkhali.
