Gambian forward Sainev Bojang scored a brace as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club sealed their place in the semi-finals of the Federation Cup with a 2-1 win over Saif Sporting Club in the second quarter-final on Friday.
Bojang, who was denied a contract last season in Bangladesh due to his under age, finally stole the show after failing to hit the target in the first three matches of the group stage.
Bojang’s compatriot and Under-19 national team-mate — Solomon King — was the architect of his two brilliant strikes.
Bojang gave Jamal the lead in the 29th minute of the match when he chested down a long ball from Solomon and placed it to the left-hand side of Saif goalkeeper Ziaur Rahman Zia.
The 19-year old Gambian then came close to doubling the lead but he failed to beat Zia in one-on-one situation.
Colombian Cordoba Escarpeta levelled the margin for Saif with a powerful drive from 25-yard out in the 71st minute.
Jamal however took only five minutes to restore the lead as Solomon ran down the left flank to whip a nice cross for unmarked Bojang, who headed home after goalkeeper Zia and defender Yeasin Arafat rose high but failed the stop the cross.
Three-time champions Sheikh Jamal will now play against 10-time champions Abahani in last-four battle.
