At least nine people were killed in separate road accidents in Tangail, Shariatpur and Bagerhat on Friday.
Of the nine, New Age correspondents and news agency reported that three people were killed in Tangail, four in Bagerhat and two in Shariatpur.
Our Shariatpur correspondent reported that a Bangladeshi expatriate who lived in Italy and his wife died in a road accident at Kashipur Hindupara area in the district headquarters in the morning when a lorry ran over their motorbike.
Expatriate Mithun Mandol, 36, and his wife Nandita Rani Mandol, 30, were heading to Madaripur to see a physician, said the local police.
The police failed to arrest the lorry driver but seized the lorry from the spot.
The bodies were sent to district hospital for post-mortem examinations.
New Age correspondent in Tangail reported that three people were killed in a road accident when a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided on the Dhaka-Bangabandu Bridge highway in Hatiya area in Kalihati upazila of Tangail early Friday.
One of the victims was identified as Sabur Miah, 35, son of the late Akter Ali in Bhuapur upazila of the district. The others could not be identified immediately but were travelling in the CNG-run threewheeler.
Officer in-charge of Bangabadhu East police station Md Mosharof Hossain said that the accident took place when a North Bengal-bound bus collided head on with a CNG-run three wheeler, leaving the CNG driver dead on the spot and two others injured.
The injured were rushed to Tangail Sheikh Hasina Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared them dead.
Staff of the bus managed to flee away from the spot. The dead bodies were kept in the hospital morgue, he said.
United News of Bangladesh reported that three construction workers, who were injured in a road accident in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat on Thursday evening, died at a Khulna hospital on Friday, taking the death toll in the accident to four.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Hossain, 35, Manjur Sheikh, 55, Rana Sheikh, 24, and Rubel Sheikh, 30, residents of village Charkandi in the upazila.
Sub-inspector of Katakhali Highway police Moloy Roy said a bus crashed into a trolley carrying a group of construction workers on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway at Berboalia in Mollahat at about 7:00pm on Thursday.
The accident left Rubel dead on the spot and 14 others injured.
The injured were first taken to Mollahat Upazila Health Complex from where some of them were sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Three of the injured succumbed to their injuries at the KMCH in the early hours of Friday, said the police officer.
He said the police had seized the bus after the accident but its driver and his helper managed to flee.
