The Lalon devotees from all across the country have gathered at Chheuriya, Kushtia to attend the legendary mystic bard Fakir Lalon Shah’s 128th anniversary of death.
The three-day death anniversary programme featuring discussion, Lalon song presentation and shadhu sangha (religious assembly of lalon followers) has been organised on the bank of Kaliganga by Lalon Academy, in association with Kustia district administration and cultural affairs ministry.
Every day during the programme, which began on Tuesday, Lalon devotees and renowned singers have been presenting Lalon’s songs in the nightlong shows at the open stage.
Besides, intellectuals and leading politicians, including, information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Awami League joint general secretary and member of parliament from Kushtia-3 Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and pro-vice chancellor of Kushtia Islamic University professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman attended the programme.

The discussants spoke on life and works of Fakir Lalon Shah who has secured a unique position in the history of traditional music for his humanitarian songs, blending philosophies of different devotional traditions such as Shahajia of Buddhism, Shahajia of Vaishnavism, Sufism of Islam and several others.
Following the discussion, Khelafat Sadhu and his troupe presented popular songs of Lalon.
Besides, leading baul singers like Razzak Baul, Kangalini Sufia, Tuntun Baul, Samir Baul, Abdul Kuddus and others performed at the opening day’s programme.
Traditional artistes Shafi Mondol, Barik Pagla and Nuzhat Nahian Bristi, among others, entertained the audience presenting Lalon songs on Wednesday.
The three-day programme presided over by deputy commissioner of Kusthia district administration Md Aslam Hossain will end today.
The concluding day will feature presentation of songs by renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen.
Besides, Lalon artistes Nuri Hasan, Shumi Ahsan, Selina Hossain, Nusrat Akther and singer Rinku, among others, will perform at the programme today.
