The 13th anniversary of death of M A Samad, insurance legend and founder of Bangladesh General Insurance Company Limited, will be observed today.
After his retirement as managing director of Jiban Bima Corporation, he established the Bangladesh General Insurance Company Limited, the country’s first insurance company in the private sector after liberation.
He was also the founder director of Bangladesh Insurance Academy and chairman of Bangladesh Insurance Association.
M A Samad was born in a respectable Muslim family at Kulaura of Moulvibazar on January 1, 1923.
The insurance legend is greatly remembered for his valuable contributions to the field of general insurance in Bangladesh.
The late Samad was an enlisted international expert on the Technical Assistance Programme on Trade and Development of the United Nations and visited most insurance training institutions in the United Kingdom and the United States under the UNDP fellowship programme.
He authored two books on life insurance and on general insurance in Bengali and two textbooks on life insurance in English.
Family members have requested all to pray for salvation of the departed soul, said a press release on Tuesday.
