The High Court Division on Sunday directed the trial court to continue the trial proceedings in the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Charitable Trust case against ailing and jailed former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and three others.
A bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice S M Kuddus Zaman issued the directive after summarily rejecting her petition challenging the trial court’s order to try her in her absence after allowing the prosecution’s appeal.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Zainul Abedin told reporters that they would appeal against the High Court Division’s order.
The next hearing in the Zia Charitable Trust Case is due tomorrow.
Another bench of the High Court Division directed her lawyers to file fresh petition seeking bail for her in the 2nd case alleged for burning a lone bus at Chaddagram, Cumilla.
The bench gave the directive to her lawyers after attorney general Mahbubey Alam pointed out that her bail petition was not filed with the certified copy of the trial court’s order that had rejected her bail.
Her lawyers submitted that the trial court declined to supply the certified copy of its order to prevent them from taking the matter to the HC.
She is now under treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
