Death toll rises to three

Death toll in a fire that broke out from suspected leakage in gas lines at a flat at Uttarkhan in the capital early Saturday rose to three after another victim died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning.
Fifty-year old Sufia Begum, resident of village Ramtan in Bhangura, died of 99 per cent burn injuries at the burn unit of the hospital around 7:30am on Sunday, said DMCH police outpost in-charge sub‑inspector Bachchu Mia.
All eight residents were burnt to different degrees in the fire that broke out at the flat near Helal Market in Uttarkhan’s Beparipara on Saturday.
Fire fighters rescued the victims and admitted them to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Md Azizul, 27, and his wife 20-year old Moslema Khatun died on Saturday.
The remaining five burnt in the fire — Md Dablu Molla, 33, Anjuara Anju, 25, Abdullah Sourav, 5, Purnima, 35, and Sagor, 12 — were undergoing treatment at the hospital’s burn unit.
DMCH officials told New Age Purnima had sustained 80 per cent burns, Sagar 66 per cent, Dablu 65 per cent, Abdullah 12 per cent and Anju six per cent burns.
The victims were all related to each other and lived in the rented apartment on the ground floor of a three-storey building.
