The minimum wage board, formed to review the wages for the readymade garment workers, has finalised its recommendations setting minimum wages for the workers of all seven grades in readymade garment sector.
Earlier, state minister for labour announced Tk 8,000 as the minimum wage for the readymade garment workers on September 13 amid protests from labour groups demanding higher pays.
The minimum wage board has published a gazette notification recommending Tk 8,000 as minimum wage for the lowest grade workers and at the same time proposed wages for the workers of other six grades.
The board recommended Tk 8,000 as minimum wage for the workers of grade VII and the amount includes basic pay Tk 4100, 50 per cent of basic pay as house rent, Tk 600 as medical allowance, Tk 350 as travel allowance and Tk 900 as food allowance.
The wage board recommended Tk 8,399 as gross monthly pay with Tk 4,366 as basic pay for grade VI; for grade V, Tk 8,855 as gross pay with Tk 4,670 as basic; for grade IV, Tk 9,245 as gross pay with basic at Tk 4,930; for grade III, Tk 9,578 as gross pay with basic at Tk 5152; for grade II, Tk 14,621 as gross pay with basic pay at Tk 8,514; and Tk 17,504 as gross pay with Tk 10,436 as basic pay for the grade I.
The board has published the proposals along with the recommendations of Tk 5,975 as the gross monthly pay for the apprentice workers in a gazette notification on Monday seeking written objections, if any, against or suggestions on the recommendations in 14 days.
The board also finalised its recommendations setting Tk 8,363 as minimum wage for the employees of the RMG sector.
