Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday questioned on what moral basis politicians Kamal Hossain and Badruddoza Chowdhury will continue Jatiya Oikya Prakria with Bangladesh Nationalist Party whose leaders are convicted in the August 21 grenade attack case.
While addressing at the opening session of the national conference of the contractors association of the of the road transport division, at Institution of Engineers’ Bangladesh auditorium, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said, ‘The people will not accept unity with the killers.’
The mastermind of the August 21, attack, the acting chairperson of BNP Tarique Rahman is convicted with life term jail in the verdict of the case which was given on Wednesday, Quader said.
‘Now how you will continue your alliance with BNP,’ Quader questioned.
‘We believe that the people of the country will not accept such unity with the killers,’ Quader said.
He criticised the role of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who said after the verdict that the verdict was influenced by the government and said that the court had given the verdict after 14 years and the ruling government did not influenced it.
When the attack took place on August 21, 2004, then BNP was in power and they cannot skip the responsibility of the attack and killing of 24 leaders and activists, Quader said.
Moreover, then prime minister Khaleda Zia, was home minister so she could not avoid the responsibility of the killing, Quader said.
