Chief selector Minhajul Abedin on Wednesday said that they were looking forward to field the best possible squad in the forthcoming bilateral one-day internationals and Test series against Zimbabwe, putting aside the suggestion of making a serious experiment.
With Bangladesh comfortably placed at ninth position in Test rankings and Zimbabwe losing their strength many ways, it was suggested the Tigers, who would host the African side from October 21, should try some new players.
The possibility was raised further by the injury of Sakib al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, who had been an integral part of the team until a finger and wrist injury ruled them out for series.
Bangladesh are also toiling with fitness of some senior players, including ODI skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza and batting mainstay Mushfiqur Rahim, bringing a discussion about trying out some new players against Zimbabwe.
But Minhajul apparently ruled out the possibility, saying that they were not eager to take to any chance against the African lightweights.
‘It is quite normal that we will make some changes from the Asia Cup. [But] we have made the best possible team and hopefully they will do well in Zimbabwe series,’ Minhajul told reporters in Mirpur.
‘We already know that both Sakib and Tamim are in injuries and they can’t play in the series. So we have made the team keeping these in our minds. There is nothing we can do with the injuries and if someone is injured we won’t get his service,’ he added.
Minhajul revealed that they didn’t have the luxury to take Zimbabwe lightly and the Tigers would be ready to give their best in all the matches.
‘Every series is important for us. We can’t take any team lightly. Our best possible team will play. There are rankings and points which are in our minds. So we want to see the best performance from them,’ he said.
Zimbabwe team led by Hamilton Masakadza will arrive in Bangladesh on October 16 to play three ODIs and two Test matches.
The first of the three-match ODI series will take place on October 21 in Mirpur while the rest two matches will be held in Chittagong on October 24 and 26 respectively.
The first Test between both the teams is scheduled to be held in Sylhet from November 3 while the second and final match will take place in Mirpur from November 11.
Zimbabwe have already announced both the squads for the ODI and Test series.
