AKM Abdur Rouf Foundation, named after the Independence Day Award winning artist and freedom fighter Rouf, was launched on Monday at Bangladesh Film Archive auditorium to promote his works.
Cultural Affairs Minister Assaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the foundation as the chief guest while eminent singer Mustafa Zaman Abbasi, seasoned cultural activist Kamal Lohani, information and communication technology department’s director general AKM Khairul Alam, and Bangladesh Film Archive’s director general Shachindra Nath Halder were present as special guests at the event.
Abdur Rouf Foundation chairman also Rouf’s widow Shahanara Rouf presided over the launching ceremony.
The discussants recalled the contributions of the late artist and freedom fighter Rouf, who hand-wrote the constitution of the country, designed the National Flag and logo of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and also held the position of the founding curator of Bangladesh Film Archive.
‘He defected from the Pakistan embassy in London and actively participated in the war of independence. He was also a skilled artist,’ Noor said.
‘He spent a lot of time to establish Bangladesh Film Archive,’ Kamal Lohani recalled.
A documentary on life and works of AKM Abdur Rouf Foundation was also screened at the programme.
Abdur Rouf got the Ekushe Padak in 2010 and the Independence Day Award in 2016.
