BGB member hurt in ‘gunfight’ with smugglers in Kushtia

A member of Border Guard Bangladesh sustained bullet injury in a reported gunfight with smugglers in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia early Saturday.
The victim is Nayek Safayet Hossain, member of BGB-47 battalion.
Tipped-off that a group of smugglers were peddling Indian contraband Phensedyl syrup at Joypur border around 2:00pm, a BGB team conducted a raid in the bordering area, said commander of BGB-47 battalion Nayek Subedar Subrata Kumar.
Sensing the presence of the BGB team, the smugglers opened fire on them and forced them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.
During the brief ‘gunfight’, Nayek Safayet sustained bullet injuries, he added.
The law enforcers also recovered 93 bottles of Phensedyl from the spot, the commander added.
