Election Commission on Wednesday announced Serniabad Sadik Abdullah, ruling Awami League’s mayor candidate in the Barishal City Corporation election, victorious unofficially.
Returning officer Mujibur Rahman declared the result in his office in the afternoon, two-month and two-day after the election was held on July 30.
He also announced results of councillor election in 24 out of 30 wards and 7 out of 10 reserved wards for women.
Re-elections would be held in ward no. 1, 14, 17, 22, 23 and 24 and in reserved wards for women no. 5, 6 and 9 to elect councillors.
According to EC, Serniabad Sadik Abdullah received 1 lakh 11 thousands 956 votes in 114 centres out of 123 centres while his nearest contestant BNP’s candidate Mojibor Rahman Sorwar received 13,776 votes.
In this election a total of 1 lakh 39 thousand 151 votes (62 per cent of total voters) cast their votes.
EC also decided re-election in 9 postponed centres of 6 wards between 13-15th of current month.
Mentionable that vote casting were postponed at 15 centres and voting cancelled in a centre on Election Day over different types of irregularities.
After an investigation the EC investigation EC found irregularities in 41 centres and the report was submitted to EC on October 1, and then the EC decided to declare the unofficial result on Wednesday.
