Five people were killed and two others were injured in a road accident at Thakurdighi Bazaar of Mirsarai upazila in Chattogram on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Shah Alam, 40, Didarul Alam, 35, Kamrul, 45, Mosharraf, 26, and Mohiuddin, 60.
Mohiuddin was a passenger and the other four were CNG drivers.
The injured are — Liton, 25, and Sohel, 22; they were admitted to Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex.
Witnesses said that the accident took place as a coal-laden truck hit a crowd of drivers and passengers at a CNG-run auto-rickshaw stand around 6:00am, leaving four dead on the spot and three others injured.
Of the injured, one died on the way to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.
Jorarganj Highway police outpost sub-inspector Hossain Tipu said that local people held the truck driver and handed him over to the Jorarganj police.
The bodies were handed over to the families without post-mortem examinations, he added.
