The Ekushey Padak-winning writer Hasan Azizul Huq was conferred the first Sahitya-Ratna Sammanana 2018 introduced this year by the IFIC Bank Limited to honour an eminent writer of the country for his/her remarkable contributions to the contemporary Bangla literature.
The bank also handed over IFIC Sahitya Puraskar 2016 to two writers Khosru Chowdhury and Shakoor Majid at a programme held at the IFIC Tower in Purana Paltan on Saturday.
Hasan Azizul Huq received a cheque of Tk 10,00,000, a crest and a certificate from the Bangladesh Bank governor Fazle Kabir, who attended the programme as the chief guest. The governor also handed over cheque of Tk 5,00,000, a crest and a certificate to each of the two writers Khosru Chowdhury and Shakoor Majid.
IFIC Bank Limited’s chairman Salman F Rahman and its managing director Shah A Sarwar were also present at the programme.
This was the sixth IFIC Sahitya Puraskar handing over ceremony organised by the bank to encourage the writers of the country as part of its corporate social responsibility activities.
Khosru Chowdhury, who has been conducting researches on the Sunderbans and Royal Bengal Tiger for many years, won the award for his novel Sunderbaner Bagher Pichhu Pichhu while writer-playwright Shakoor Majid won the award for Ferauner Gram.
Both of the writers expressed their satisfactions and thanked IFIC for organising the competition and its impartial approach of selecting the best writers.
Most of the awards in the country are subject to controversy and nepotism, the winners opined.
Hasan Azizul Huq in his speech said, ‘Awards are always inspiring but the Sahitya-Ratna Sammanana conferred on me by IFIC Bank Limited deserves special mention.’
He hoped the award would inspire him as a writer to express even the cruel truths through his works.
