The residential students of Madar Bux Hall of Rajshahi University detained a youth from the hall for his alleged involvement in Yaba trading.
The detained was identified as Ariful Haque Arif, 25, son of Abul Kalam of village Ahammadpur under Boraigram upazila in Natore.
Residential students said that they called Ariful and interrogated him as he was roaming on the second floor of the hall and was seen attempting to open the door of some rooms.
As the students started beating him up, Arif admitted that he was involved in Yaba peddling and went to the hall to collect money from a student named Rifat, the students said.
He, however, could not identify any of the students as there were several students named Rifat. Later, he was taken to the hall provost’s office.
Provost Abdul Alim told New Age that Ariful was handed over to Motihar police station as he admitted that he was involved in Yaba peddling.
Police sub-inspector Abdur Rahman said that they were interrogating him at the police station and was planning to conduct a drive.
