Artist Mintu Dey has won the second best prize for his watercolour painting ‘Boat on a River’ at the first international watercolour festival held in Costa Rica.
He won the award competing with participants from 45 countries. His semi-abstract painting features a boat on a volatile river.
The four-day festival, Tropical Watercolour, organised by International Watercolour Society (IWS), began on Monday and ends today.
‘It is a big inspiration for me to get an international award. I have long been working in watercolour medium depicting the natural beauty of Bangladesh in my paintings. I’m happy that I got the award for one of such paintings even though I could not attend the festival’, Mintu Dey told New Age.
Mintu Dey has so far displayed his works in three solos- Childhood (2008), Range Jaley Nisarga (2014) and Rang-er Bangladesh (2015) and many group shows.
The IWS Bangladesh’s co-representative Dey says he prefers watercolour to others considering it the best medium to portray beauty of nature and landscape.
