Officers’ association members of Bangladesh Agricultural University were locked into an altercation at vice-chancellor secretariat in presence of the VC while a meeting of journalists with the VC was in progress there on Monday.
At about 12:30pm, about 30 leaders and members of officers’ association went to BAU VC secretariat to press home their demands.
Pro-vice-chancellor Professor Jasimuddin Khan wanted to calm them saying to sit with the officers’ leaders but BAU extension center assistant director Mohammad Abul bashar Amzad, deputy librarian Md Khairul Alam Nannu, sports training assistant director Mohammad Mostain Kabir rejected his effort.
In the meantime, officers’ association members brawled with each other.
Journalists were harassed while capturing photos at that time.
BAU pro-vice-chancellor Professor Jasimuddin Khan said, ‘I told officers’ association leaders for discussion but they misbehaved with me. This behave is unacceptable in front of university’s highest guardian.’
‘We went to vice-chancellor secretariat for legal demands. We are extremely sorry for misbehaving with journalists. This situation will not be happened again,’ said BAU officers’ association president Arif Jahangir.
BAU vice-chancellor Professor Md Ali Akbar said, ‘demands from different section may remain. Demands will be fulfill by a systematic way but this type of behave is not acceptable. Steps will be taken after taking decision with teachers’ association and Gonotantrik Shikkhok Forum, an Awami backed teachers’ association.’
