Customs intelligence seized 25 gold bars at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city on Thursday night.
‘We recovered the gold bars from a carton in cargo village area of the airport around 11:00pm. The estimated cost of the seized bars, weighing 2.5 kg, was Tk 1.25 crore,’ director general of customs intelligence and investigation directorate Md Shahidul Islam said on Friday.
The customs intelligence sources said that the consignment came from Singapore on flight no SQ446 around 10:30pm.
‘Acting on a tip-off, a customs team raided the cargo village area and opened up two cartons full of zippers. We found 25 gold bars inside the cartons,’ the customs boss added.
Legal actions was taken in this connection.
