Social welfare minister Rashed Khan Menon on Friday gave his word to take initiatives to ensure separate accommodation facilities for transgender people.
‘I hope one day they will be able to get elected for national parliament as well. Bangladesh is doing wonders in every sector. Our per capita income is now USD 1,752. GDP growth rate now is 7.65 per cent. With so much success, we cannot let some of our brothers and sisters to live in neglect,’ he said.
The minister said these while talking to transgender community leaders at his government residence in the morning.
The transgender leaders drew Menon’s attention to the different problems they were facing in everyday life including succession act, obstacles in holding funerals for their dead ones and enrolment of children in public schools.
The minister gave them a patience hearing and ordered official concerned to take actions to solve their problems.
