Chattogram Port Authority on Tuesday handed over to local administration a cheque worth Tk 352.62 crore for acquiring the land for Bay Container Terminal.
Now there is no other hurdle to starting the construction work of long awaited terminal in Chittagong to mobilise the port activities.
The cheque hand-over ceremony was held at Radisson Blu Chittagong bay View.
CPA managed the amount from its own fund.
Addressing the programme, shipping minister Shahjahan Khan mentioned that in 2009 the port was ranked 98th but now it progressed a lot.
The port, he said, had Tk 14, 000 crore in reserve while 4 lakh square kilometre yard and 1,200 metre road was set up in last 10 years.
Member of parliament MA Latif said, ‘Today is like Eid day for businesspeople as there is no other obstacle in the way of Bay terminal.’
Chittagong city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said that this terminal would cut traffic congestion on Airport road and congestion of ships at Chittagong port.
Chittagong Development Authority chairman Abdus Salam, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Mahmubul Alam, CPA chairman commodore Zulfiqr Aziz and deputy commissioner Md Elius Hossain were present in the ceremony.
