Madrassah student found dead in Ctg

The body of a madrassah student was found hanging at the madrassah bathroom in Halishahar area of Chittagong on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Shahriar Alam, 14, son of Shahen Alam of Foam Market Goli, Enyatet Bazar area Chittagong. He was a student of Hifz department of Mahdlatul Ummah Hafizia Madrassah in Nayabazar area of Halishahar.
The madrassah authorities claimed that they found the victim’s body hanging from the ceiling fan with a lungi inside a bathroom around 11:30pm on Sunday, said Double Mooring police assistant commissioner Ashiqur Rahman, adding that Shahriar used to wear lungi.
Family members alleged that he had died after being severely beaten. Shahriar’s mother Sharmin Sultana said that Monir Hujur from the madrassah informed her around 11:30pm to tell her Shahriar had become sick.
‘When we went to the madrasa hostel, we found that my son had been beaten severely.’ the mother said.
Shahriar’s Aunt Sultana Akhter said that it was a murder and that there were injury marks on Shahriar’s body. ‘We are going to
file a murder case,’ she added.
Chittagong Medical College Hospital outpost assistant sub-inspector Alauddin Talukder said that on Sunday night, relatives brought in an injured madrassah student whom the duty doctor declared dead. There were marks of injury on his throat.
The body was sent to the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Halishahar police station officer-in-charge Mahfuzur Rahman said that the actual cause of death would be known after receiving the post-mortem report.
The police detained madrassah head Monir Hossain to be quizzed over the death.
