Tagore’s popular songs presented

Leading Tagore singers entertained the audience singing popular songs of nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore at a programme held on Sunday at Kabi Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum.
Tagore singers like Shama Rahman, Sarwar Hossain Babu, Aparna Khan, Nasrin Akther, Labbono Sudha and Syeda Rifat Jaman performed at the show organised by literary organisation Bangiya Council for Literature and Culture marking Tagore’s 77th death anniversary, which was observed on August 6.
BCLC also launched a new Tagore department at the programme.
Shama Rahaman was elected the president of the department, which was jointly inaugurated by vice chancellor of Rabindra University and also member of BCLC presidium committee professor Dr Biswajit Ghosh and Indian Tagore researcher Dr Bina Biswas.
Shama Rahman began the cultural show singing two Tagore songs Tai tomar ananda amar por and Sokatore oi kadiche sokoley.
Pijush Barua sang Tumi ki keboli chhobi and Mone ki dwidha rekhe gele chole, Sarwar Hossain Babu rendered Ami choncholo hey and Sokhi bhabona kahare bole, Aparna Khan rendered Jagat jure udar sure and Bondhu roho roho., Nasrin Akther sang Amar hiyar majhe lukiye chile, Labbono Sudha rendered Anondo dhara bohiche bhubone and Tomai notun kore pabo bole and Syeda Rifat Jaman sang Amar raat pohalo and Sudhu tomar bani noy go bondhu.
‘I have really enjoyed the programme. The singers wonderfully performed evergreen songs of Tagore. Such programmes should be organised more often’, Sezan Ahmed, an audience member, told New Age.
