Hosts Bangladesh on Saturday were thrown out of the ongoing SAFF Championship after they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Nepal during the final match of the Group A at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka.
Bangladesh, who won their first two matches against Bhutan and Pakistan, needed one point to stay alive in the competition.
Nepal went ahead during the 33rd minute of the match after Bangladesh goalkeeper Sohidul Yousof Sohel made a sloppy mistake to grab the free-kick of Bimal Gharti Magar.
Bangladesh tried to equalise with several attacks but lack of finishing from their upfront harmed Bangladesh and sent Nepal to the lemon break with 1-0 lead.
After coming from the break, Bangladesh intensified their attacks but they couldn’t get the best result.
Rather during the 90th minute Nawayug Shrestha sealed the deal for Nepal when he scored the second and final goal of the match.
With Bangladesh’s defeat now Nepal and Pakistan moved to the semi-final spot respectively as group champions and runners-up.
Pakistan earlier grabbed a 3-0 win against Bhutan at the same venue to secure their place in the last four.
