Court sends BNP leader Sohel to jail

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent Bangladesh Nationalist Party joint secretary general Habibunnabi Khan Sohel to jail after he surrendered before court and sought bail in 40 cases of subversion.

Metropolitan magistrate Zakir Hossain Tipu sent Sohel to jail rejecting his bail prayer after he surrendered in a case filed with Mohammadpur police station. Later, Sohel's bail prayers were rejected in remianing 39 cases.

Sohel’s counsel Sanaullah Mia said Sohel was deprived from justice and they would appeal against the orders. 'It is unexpected that a leader of his streature is denied bail after surrendering before the court in 40 cases,' he added.

Sohel is also the member secretary of Dhaka city BNP and president of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal. His younger brother Rashedunnabi Biplab was arrested in Japanease citizen Kunio Hosi murder case in Rangpur.
