At least two suspected criminals were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with police in Bogra and Narayanganj early Thursday.
In Bogra, Apan alias Ceaser Khandaker, 32, of Manikchawak, Sadar upazila, was killed allegedly in a gunfight with the police.
He was named in at least 11 criminal cases.
In Narayanganj, Mobarak Hossain, 50, of Pratapnagar, Sonargaon upazila was killed in gunfight with the police.
Bogra additional superintendent of police (sadar circle) Sanatan Chakrabarty claimed that Apan was killed in a gunfight with the police at the Matidhali Intersection under Bogra sadar upazila at about 2:30am on Thursday.
He claimed that the ‘gunfight’ occurred when the police, on secret information, raided the area and Apan and his cohorts opened fire when the police retaliated.
He said that the police seized a shutter gun, two bullets and a dagger from the spot.
Sanatan claimed that Apan was involved in crimes in Matidali, Manikchawk and Banglabazar area in the Sadar upazila.
In Narayanganj, Mobarak was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Asharier Char under Sonargaon upazila in the district at about 4:00am on Thursday, claimed Sonargaon police station officer-in-charge Sharafat Ullah.
He said that following tip off police raided Asharier Char where the suspects gathered to commit robbery on night coaches passing through the area.
He said that the robbers opened fire targeting the police who retaliated and searching the area after the gunfight police found bullet hit body of Mobarak.
OC Sharafat said that they seized a firearm and two bullets from the spot.
