The parliamentary standing committee on the civil aviation and tourism on Monday recommended that legal action should be taken against hajj agencies that had violated conditions set by the religious affairs ministry.
The committee also recommended that the licenses of these hajj agencies should be cancelled for any kind of irregularities related to carrying hajj pilgrims.
The recommendations came at a meeting of the committee at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Muhammad Faruq Khan in the chair, an official release said.
Other members of the committee — civil aviation and tourism minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal, Md Ali Ashraf, Tanvir Imam, Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Qumrul Ashraf Khan and Sabiha Nahar Begum — attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the committee recommended that discipline should be brought about at Biman Bangladesh Airlines to ensure better services for passengers.
The committee discussed the development activities of Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong, the hajj management process and maintenance works of Hotel Sonargaon and Hotel Ruposhi Bangla.
