178 businesspersons get CIP status

A total of 178 businesspeople were recognised on Monday as Commercially Important Persons by the commerce ministry for their contribution to the economic growth of Bangladesh in 2015.

CIP status was given to 136 businesspersons for their extraordinary performances in respective fields and 42 others for their status under the ex-officio category of different business chambers and trade bodies, who are the members of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

While addressing a ceremony to recognize the 'Commercially Important Persons in Export and Trade-2015' in a city hotel in the afternoon, commerce minister Tofail Ahmed said the continuity of Awami League in the government is necessary for a continued and sustainable development.

He claimed previously when the government has changed, the flow of development dropped but in these two terms, AL has brought positive and significant changes in the economy and other sectors.

Commerce minister underscored the need for government becoming more supportive to businesspeople so that they can better contribute to nation's economy.

Among various honors, the CIPs got special passes to enter the secretariat, use special stickers on their cars, and receive invitations to attend some public functions.

They also get priority in seat reservations in airlines, railways, roads and public transports in the waterways, and get letters of introduction from the foreign ministry for travelling abroad.

They and their dependents also get cabins in hospitals on a priority basis.

FBCCI president Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin addressed as the special guest with Export Promotion Bureau vice-chairman Bijoy Bhattacharjee presiding over the programme.
