At least 10 people were killed in road accidents in five districts on Monday.
Of the deceased, three each were killed at Savar in Dhaka and in Noakhali, two in Lalmonirhat and one each in Naogaon and Rangpur, according to reports received from the districts.
At Savar, three people – engineer Zahurul Islam, 55, of Mir Akhter Hossain Group, pickup driver Khalilur Rahman, 38, and Nurunnabi, 48, were killed and five others were injured as a pickup crashed into a truck on Dhaka-Aricha Highway at Boliarpur early Monday, said Savar model police station sub-inspector Ajgar Ali.
He said that the accident took place when the Dhaka-bound pickup from Sirajganj crashed into the truck from behind leaving the three passengers of the pickup van dead on the spot and five others injured.
In Noakhali, at least three people – auto-rickshaw driver Abu Taher, 35, Firoza Begum, 60, of village Uttar Rajarampur under Senbagh upazila in the district and her son Mohon, 35, were killed as a pickup van crashed into the CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Noakhali-Feni Road in Senbagh intersection under Senbagh upazila at about 10:00am, said Senbag police station sub-inspector Mosleh Uddin.
In Naogaon, motorcyclist Md Faisal Kabir, 25, of village Sahsha under Badalgachhi upazila was killed as a truck hit him from the back at Jagatsindhu point on Bypass road in the district town Monday evening, said Naogaon Sadar police station inspector (investigation) Anwar Hossain.
New Age correspondent in Rangpur reported that 12-year-old boy Rajib, son of Khasru Mahamud of Taluk Belka under Sundargonj upazilla in Gaibandha, who was injured in Sunday’s deadly road crash, succumbed to the injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Monday.
Rajib’s death took to eight the number of deaths in the head-on collision between two buses in CO Bazar area in Rangpur.
In Lalmonirhat, Alamgir Hossain, 19, of Duhuli village under Kaliganj upazila, and Abdul Khaleque, 35, a human-hauler driver of the upazila in Lalmonirhat district – were killed and seven others injured when a truck rammed into a human-hauler on Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway near Palli Bidyut substation under Aditmari upazila Monday morning, United News of Bangladesh reported, quoting Aditmari police station officer-in-charge Masud Rana.
