Two more bodies were recovered from Chalan Bil on Sunday morning, rising the death toll to five in Friday’s tourist boat capsize in Paikpara area of Chatmohar upazila in Pabna.
Pabna Fire Service and Civil Defence officials ended the rescue drive on Sunday after recovering all the five missing bodies.
Fire service divers recovered the bodies of Rafikul Islam Swapan, a businessman, and Billal Hossain Goni, senior scientific office of regional agriculture research institute of Ishwardi in Pabna from the water body around 9:00am, said KM Saiful Islam, assistant director of Pabna Fire Service and Civil Defence.
‘The bodies of all the missing people were recovered within 30 hours of the incident,’ Saiful said.
Earlier on Friday, five people went missing as a tourist boat with twenty-two visitors capsized at Paikpara point of Chatmohar upazila in Pabna, while they were enjoying a river cruise in the Chalan Bil.
The victims were — Billal Hossain Goni, his wife Momtaz Parvin Sheuly, trader Rafikul Islam Swapan, his daughter Sadia Khatun, and Shahnaz Parvin Parul, a housewife.
The bodies of Momtaz Parvin Sheuly, Sadia Khatun and Shahnaz Parvin Parul were recovered on Saturday.
Chatmohar police officer-in-charge Md Bodruddoza said that all the bodies were handed over to their respective families.
