Theatre troupe Bot Tala celebrated its tenth founding anniversary through a programme held on Saturday at Dr Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity.
The celebration programme featured conferring of a memorial award, discussion and theatre show.
Bot Tala conferred ‘Nadim Smriti Shrestha Natyakarmi Purushkar 2018’ on its activist Toufiq Hasan Bhuiyan for his contribution to the troupe.
The award named after Nadim, a late Bot Tala member, was handed over by thespian Martha Rita Gomes, in presence of playwright Masum Reza, actor-director Azad Abul Kalam, Muhammad Bari and Jahangirnagar University professor Anu Muhammad.
Following the awards ceremony, the troupe staged its tenth production Bonnotherium. The play, an adaptation of Sukumar Roy’s story titled ‘Hesoram Husiyaer Diary’, has been adapted and directed by Evan Riaz.
The satirical play depicts how someone wanting to do good things often ends up doing something bad.
The play revolves around a group of scientists, who takes up a research project to save the environment but ends up with an invention which causes more harm to nature.
Bot Tala artistes Toufiq Bhuiyan, Kazi Rokasana Ruma, Sharmin Iti, Mahbub Masum, Hafiza Akter Jhuma, Sumit, Evan Riaz and others acted in the play.
Bot Tala, which was established on August 27, 2008, has so far produced ten plays including acclaimed productions like Khona, Crutch-er Colonel, Madhushikari and The Trial of Mallam Ilya.
