The centenary birth anniversary of the chief of armed forces in the Liberation War, General Muhammad Ataul Gani
Osmani, was celebrated in Sylhet on Saturday with a befitting manner through different colourful programmes.
Celebration of the 100th birth anniversary of Osmani was started through cutting a cake at first hour on Friday at the Osmani Museum at Nayorpool in the city.
Former army chief Lieutenant General Harun Or Rashid, Bir Pratik, also convener of Osmani’s 100th Birthday Celebration Committee, cut the cake as chief guest in the programme that was attended by the people of all walks in the society, including celebration committee secretary’s member secretary Sarwar Ahmad Chowdhury Abdal, joint-convener Aziz Ahmad Selim and its adviser freedom fighter Rafiqul Haque.
The committee members also offered Fateha and placed floral wreaths at the graveyard of MAG Osmani at Hazrat Shahjalal Shrine in the city on Saturday morning.
They brought out a colourful rally from the Osmani Museum and marched towards the Central Shaheed Minar at Chowhatta in the city.
They also arranged a Quran recitation at the mosque of Hazrat Shahjalal milad and doa mahfil after the Zohr prayers marking the centenary birth anniversary of Osmani.
Osmani’s 100th Birthday Celebration Committee will arrange a discussion and musical programme at Sylhet district council auditorium on Sunday afternoon, the organisation leaders said.
