3 die, 2 missing in Chalanbeel boat capsize

At least three persons drowned and two others went missing after a passenger boat capsized at Paikpara area in the Chalanbeel in Pabna Friday night.
The dead were identified as Momotaz Parvin Shuly, 35. wife of senior scientific official of Ishwardi Regional Agriculture Research Centre Md Abdul Bilal Ghoni, Shahnaz Begum,42, wife of Mosharaf Hossin of Ishwardi town and class six student Sadia Khatun Moni,12, daughter of Shafiqul Islam also of Ishwardi town.
The two missing persons are Bilal Ghoni and Shafiqul Islam.
Chatmohar OC Bodruduzza said that, a team of divers from Rajshahi recovered bodies of Sadia Khatun and Shahnaz Begum.
The boat was carrying 22 passengers when strong currents overturned it near Paikpara, in the vast Chalanbeel at around 7.30PM on Friday said Md. Bodruddoza, officer in charge of Chatmohar police station.
All of the passengers except the four swum to the shore, the OC said adding that the rescue operations were underway for which divers had been called to the spot.
Earlier, a group of 22 visitors mostly from Ishwardi and the nearby areas in the Pabna district rented the boat for a cruise of the Chalanbeel, the OC said.
The boat took them tourist to Tarash upazila in Sirajganj and Bonpara in Natore upazila in the vast Chalanbeel.
