Padma Shri award-winning renowned Indian singer Hariharan has lent his voice to a song penned by local lyricist Zulfiqer Russel.

Hariharan, who has sung immensely popular playback songs including Tu hi re, recorded the song Piya Bawri at a Mumbai studio last Monday.

The song has been composed by Indian composer Tunai Debasish Ganguly.

‘Hariharan is one of my favourite singers. I always dreamt of Hariharan singing a song penned by me. When I shared my dream with Tunai, he suggested that I write a song in Hindi so the song could reach out to a much wider audience’, said Russel.

‘It has truly been a pleasant experience working with Hariharan. When we first approached him regarding the song he told us that if the lyrics are good he would sing it. After we sent him the lyrics, he instantly agreed to sing the song’, added Russel.

Piya Bawri will be released in December.
