Journalists on Friday staged protests in Khulna, Jessore and Meherpur, demanding trials of the killers of Subarna Nodi, the editor and publisher of online news portal Jagrata Bangla and district correspondent of private television channel Ananda TV.
At separate protests, they also demanded trials of the killers of Sagar, Runi, Manik Shaha and other journalists who were killed in different times.
Subarna Nodi, in her thirties, was hacked to death by unidentified assailants at her rented house in Pabna on August 28.
Her mother Marjina Begum filed a case accusing Subarna’s former husband Rajib Hossain and his father Abul Hossain and some unnamed persons with the Pabna Police Station.
Police arrested Abul Hossain, who is now in police remand.
Police, however, could not arrest the key accused, Rajib Hossain, yet, said Pabna police additional superintendent Gautam Kumar Biswash.
New Age correspondent in Jessore reported that a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists staged protest at Jessore Press Club on Friday.
They demanded immediate arrest and trial of the killers all the murdered journalists including Sagar-Runi, Manik Saha, Saiful Alam Mukul, Shamsur Rahman and Subarna Nadi.
Ruhul Amin Gazi, president of BFUJ and its secretary general M Abdullah and local journalists spoke at the protest.
Khulna Online Journalists Association also staged a human chain in front of Khulna Press Club demanding arrest and trials of the killers of Nodi, reports New Age correspondent in Khulna.
Journalists in Meherpur also staged human chain in front of Meherpur Press Club demanding the arrest and trials of the killers of Nodi, reports New Age correspondent in Meherpur.
