Transport operators are scheduled to resume checking document for vehicles and drivers in the capital today.
The checking would be operated at Mohakhali and Saidabad bus terminals, Phulbaria city bus stop and Gulistan-TBC road in Mirpur, Pallabi and Gabtoli areas, said a press release issued by Dhaka Road Transport Owners’ Association.
Four vigilance teams comprising representatives of transport owners and workers would continue the checks.
The decision was made at a meeting held at the association office on Thursday, said a release issued on the same day.
Earlier on August 8, the owners’ association decided to check fitness certificate, route permit and driving licence of city service buses and their drivers.
The leaders also decided that they would not allow city service buses to operate under ‘contract or target system’ in Dhaka.
The decisions came after thousands of students, mostly from schools and colleges, took to the streets across the country demanding justice for two of their fellows who were killed on July 29 in a Kurmitola bus accident when two Jabal-e-Nur company buses were in a race to get passengers.
The owners on August 15 postponed it the checking ‘considering sufferings of commuters due to shortage of public transports on roads’.
