Former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University AKM Siddiq died on Friday about 3:00pm at Gulshan in Dhaka. He was 96.
Siddiq, also a physicist, died of old-age complications, said a press release issued by the DU public relations office.
He is survived by his wife and three sons.
The physicist, who taught in Dhaka University, was appointed as VC on March 21, 1983 and served until August 16, 1983.
He joined DU in 1950 and obtained his PhD degree from University of Saskatchewan of Canada.
His first namaz-e janaza was held at Gulshan-1 after Isha prayers.
He will be buried in his village home in Manikganj after his second janaza there, according to the DU press release.
In the release, DU vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman expressed his deep shock and condolence to the bereaved family members.
The DU VC also prayed for eternal peace of Siddiq’s departed soul.
