Several hundred apparel workers took to the street blocking road for three hours at Uttara in Dhaka on Thursday protesting at terminations of their fellow workers.
As Top Garments workers blocked the busy road at about 11:30am, huge traffic congestion was created on one of the busy entrances of the capital causing huge sufferings to commuters and other travellers.
At about 2:30pm, the workers called off the protests, as police officials assured the workers that their problem would be solved through discussion with the factory management.
Uttara police deputy commissioner Nabid Kamal Shaibal said that the owners assured the police that they would solve the problem by the September 1 deadline given by the workers.
For three hours most of the roads around the airport were almost empty and people were seen walking in absence of vehicles.
