Ctg universities offer wide range of higher education

Chittagong, lifeline of the country’s trade and commerce, does not also lag behind in terms of higher education, with a good number of public and private universities offering time-befitting degrees.
Hundreds of students every year receive their under-graduation and graduation degrees from different universities in the port city while there are a good number of public and private universities in the division.

Chittagong University
Founded in 1966, the University of Chittagong at Hathazari offers graduate programme (honors), post-graduate programme (masters), B Pharma, M Pharma, BSc in (engineering, textile engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, medical technology and nursing), BSc (honours) in fashion design and technology course, MBBS, BDS, PGD, diploma and some certificate courses. It also offers M Phil, PhD and MD degrees.

Chittagong Medical College Hospital
Chittagong Medical College Hospital comprises 44 units of different specialties and sub-specialties and sophisticated imaging and diagnostic facilities and facilitates complex surgical procedures including open heart surgery, bypass surgery, laparoscopic procedures etc on a daily basis. Students from SAARC countries have been studying in various phases of MBBS course alongside the native students.
CMCH is now five years ahead of other medical college hospital because of coding system examination. It has a huge galaxy of renowned teachers, who are playing a very crucial role, with Professor Selim Mohammed Jahangir as principal of the institution.

Chittagong University of Science and Technology is one of the prominent and prestigious self-degree-awarding institutes in the engineering education of the country. It is situated at Chittagong-Kaptai road.
At present, CUET has 15 departments and 2 research centers. About 700 undergraduate students get admission into 9 degree awarding departments every year and the graduate programmes (MSc, MEng, MPhill, PhD) are running under 8 departments.
CUET has signed agreements with the University of Kassel, and the University of Stuttgart, Germany, the University of Ulsan, Korea and Yamagata University and Saga University of Japan, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand to accelerate the higher education and research activities.

Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University was established on August 7, 2006 in order to confer 5 (five) years’ Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and higher degrees on various other subjects/courses/fields and to enhance research and development in the field of veterinary and animal sciences. 
In CVASU there are 18 departments and three faculties — faculty of veterinary medicine, faculty of food science and technology and faculty of fisheries. There are three institutes — Poultry Research and Training Centre, One Health Institute and Institute of Coastal Bio-Diversity, Marine Fisheries and Wildlife Conservation. CVASU offers Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, BSC (Hons) in food science and technology, BSC in fisheries (Hons), MS and PhD degrees.

East Delta University
EDU offers BBA, MBA and BA in economics, English, electronic and telecommunication engineering, electrical and electronic engineering and computer science and engineering degrees.
Vice-chancellor Professor Muhammad Sekandar Khan told New Age that one and only aim of the university was to provide quality education.
‘We have designed each and every programme in such a way that students who would complete their undergraduate programmes from EDU, they would be able to play a significant role in every sphere of life,’ he said.
‘Our curriculum is the best and the most modern curriculum available anywhere in the world. We are the only university in Bangladesh where internationally reputed faculty members from all over the world are teaching in both our undergraduate and graduate programmes. We have the most modern facility focusing exclusively in enhancing student learning environment,’ the VC added.

Chittagong Independent University
CIU has been following North American Course curriculum with open credit system. One of the unique features of CIU is that it has been hosting American Corner (an initiative of the US embassy) in Chittagong for the last 10 years. It has-CIU business school, school of engineering and computer science, school of liberal arts and social sciences and school of law.
CIU offers undergraduate programmes bachelor of business administration in accounting, finance, management, human resource management, marketing, management information system, international business, bachelor of science in computer science, computer engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical and electronic engineering and electronic and telecommunication engineering, bachelor of arts in the English language and literature.

Asian University for Women
AUW is a diverse community comprised of students, faculty, and staff members from a wide range of economic, cultural, locational (rural/urban), ethnic, and religious backgrounds. To apply for AUW students must have 12 years of education. Transfer students are encouraged to apply to AUW.
The undergraduate programme is grounded in the AUW core general education requirement, which is common to all students and designed to introduce them to advanced study in social analysis, ethical reasoning, literature, civilisation studies and the arts, natural sciences, computer science, mathematics, writing, and topics specifically focused on regional challenges in Asia and women shaping society. By the end of their first undergraduate year, all students begin coursework toward their bachelor’s degree(s) in one or more major areas of study:

University of Science & Technology Chittagong
USTC is the first private university of the country. It was established with the sponsorship of a private charity on May 13, 1989.

Premier University
Premier University was established in the year 2002. According to an international educational survey, conducted by the Australian government, it received a position of ‘A’ category university. It offers BSc in computer science and engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, architecture, bachelor of business administration, English, economics, mathematics, MBA, Executive MBA, MA in English, economics and LLM degrees.

International Islamic University Chittagong
IIUC is one of the top graded Government approved private universities in Bangladesh. In 2004, IIUC was recognised as one of the 9 top-graded private universities by a government-appointed high powered team, led by the UGC chairman. At present, it is the largest private university with 370 (full time: 270 and adjunct: 100) teachers and 14,000 students from home and abroad. A good number of full-time teachers and students are studying abroad for pursuing higher studies with IIUC’s scholarship or financial assistance or continuation of services. The graduation degrees of CSE and CCE are accredited by the BAETE.
Besides, there are Noakhali Science and Technology University, Comilla University, Southern University, Port City International University, Begum Gulchemonara Trust University and Rangamati University of Science and Technology- which are playing a very important role in education sector of Bangladesh.
