Of the four films released during the Eid festival two reportedly made moderate business.
Box office report of the past one week shows Shakib-Bubly starrer romantic-action film Captain Khan made good profit, while Mahi- Indian actor Bonny starrer Mone Rekho made moderate profit.
The other two films Beporoya featuring Bobby opposite Roshan and Zannat starring Mahi and Saimon did not do well at the box office.
These four films were released at cinemas across the country on August 22 celebrating Eid festival.
Wajed Ali Sumon’s Captain Khan and Mone Rekho were respectively released at 176 cinemas and 70 cinemas, Raja Chanda’s Beporoya was released at 23 cinemas and Mustafizur Rahman Manik’s Zannat was released at one cinema.
While talking to exhibitors New Age learned that Captain Khan is running houseful at most cinemas in Dhaka and elsewhere.
Though allegation of plagiarism has been made against the big-budget film, Captain Khan appears to be the most successful film this Eid.
‘So far, we have received good responses from viewers. Most of the shows from the second day of Eid-ul-Azha was houseful’, said Paresh Chandra Ghosh, manager of Purabi Cinema at Mirpur 11.
The film is running houseful at Shyamoli Cinema as well. ‘Shakib Khan has a huge fan following. His fans always go to cinemas to watch his Eid films’, said M Ahsanullah, manager of Shyamoli Cinema.
The film is doing well outside Dhaka too. Owner of Mymensingh-based Chhayabani Cinema Shahjahan Kabir said that all shows since the first day of Eid-ul-Azha have been well-attended.
Captain Khan is expected to dominate cinemas for the next two weeks.
Wajed Ali Sumon’s another film Mone Rekho appears to be the second most successful Eid film at the box office.
The big-budget romantic film is running at 70 cinemas. Viewers have praised the on-screen chemistry between Mahi and Bonny.
‘Mone Rekho is doing quite well. A number of shows after its release were houseful’, said Iftekharuddin Nawshad, owner of Madhumita Cinema.
Director of another Dhaka-based cinema Sony, Mohammad Hossain shared that Mone Rekho is doing moderate business. ‘Eighty to ninety percent tickets of every show since the first day of Eid-ul-Azha were sold and a few shows were houseful’, said Hossain.
Though Mahi starrer film Zannat, which depicts a rural love story, did not do well at box office, the actress considers it her favourite film.
‘Mone Rekho is doing very well and has been liked by film lovers. Zannat is also a very good film but I think it should have been released after Eid’, said Mahi.
Beporoya could not do good business as the film was released at only one cinema this Eid. However the film, which has been produced by Jaaz Multimedia, will be released at various cinemas across the country in September.
‘We got censor clearance just a day before Eid-ul-Azha and could not release the film at many cinemas. We will release it at cinemas across the country hopefully in mid-September’, said Abdul Aziz, chairman of Jaaz Multimedia.
Besides four local films, two Hollywood action films- Mile 22 and Alpha- were released by Star Cineplex on Eid day simultaneously with their release in the USA. The films attracted moderate viewers.
