Nerdy Bean Coffee Haus owner Faria Mahjabin secured bail in a case filed on charge of spreading rumours on social media platforms during student protests road safety.
Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Md Aminul Haque passed the order after her lawyer Jyotirmoy Barua submitted a petition seeking her bail.
Moving the petition, Jyotirmoy argued that Faria Mahjabin had been languishing in jail since August 17 while most of the people arrested in different cases on similar allegations were already released on bail.
He also argued that she sent a message to her friend but she made no comment and it was her personal mater not spread any rumour.
Faria Mahjabin, 28, was picked up by a Rapid Action Battalion team from her house at Hazaribagh in Dhaka at about 10:45pm on August 16.
On August 17, she was shown arrested in a case filed under the Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act on allegation of spreading rumours and sharing provocative posts on social media over the recent student protests for road safety.
A metropolitan magistrate remanded her in police custody for three days for interrogation on August 17.
On August 20, she reportedly made a statement before a metropolitan magistrate.
