At least 30 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers in Habiganj on Saturday.
Local residents said that there was a longstanding enmity between the families of Askar Ali and Khasru Miah of Phulbaria village under Lakhai upazila in the district over establishing dominance in the village.
Askar had an altercation with Khokan Miah, a supporter of Khasru, on Saturday morning over a trivial matter and few hours later, supporters of the rival groups, armed with locally made weapons, locked in a clash leaving 30 injured, they said.
Lakhai police officer-in-charge Ajay Chandra Dev said that they went to the spot after being informed of the clash and sent the injured to local upazila health complex and Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital.
The police detained three people from the spot for their suspected involvement with the clash, Ajay said.
Legal steps would be taken after receiving written complaints from villagers, he added.
