Eminent dance exponent ustad Bazlur Rahman Badal died of old-age complications at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on August 19. He was 94.
Bazlur Rahman Badal, who was awarded Shilpakala Padak in 2014 and Independence Day Award in 2017 for his outstanding contribution to the dance sector, breathed his last at 3:00pm, said RMCH hospital authorities.
He is survived by his two sons and one daughter.
On August 17, Bazlur Rahman Badal was admitted to the hospital following severe chest pain. He was later shifted to the Intensive Care Unit after his condition deteriorated.
Bazlur’s daughter Naznin Ara said her father was been suffering from heart disease and high blood pressure.
Bazlur Rahman Badal was born on October 18 in 1923 at Maldah town in West Bengal, India. He passed his matriculation in 1945. He came to Rajshahi in 1946 to stage a play and never went back.
He received Nazrul Academy Award in 2011.
