10 injured in Mirpur water tank explosion

At least ten people, including six of a family, were injured in a water tank explosion of a house at Block E of Mirpur’s Pallabi in Dhaka Tuesday night.

The victims are Surat Ali, 60, his wife Bedana Begum, 50, son Rabbi, 22, daughter-in-law Laboni, 18, daughter Aleya Begum, 30, and granddaughter Mili Khatun, 5, and landlord Mosharrof Hossain, 48, his son Jisan, 18, and their relatives – Awal Hossain Babu, 32, and Alamgir Hossain, 32.

The injured were admitted to the burn and plastic surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Of the injured, condition of Surat, Laboni and Mili was critical, officials of the burn unit said.

They were brought to the hospital at about 11:30pm on Tuesday, said the burn unit chief Abul Kalam.

Surat’s youngest son Md Shakil at the DMCH told reporters that the explosion happened at about 10:30pm on Tuesday, immediately after opening the cover of the reserved tank.
