The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has fined three internet service providers Tk 9 lakh in total as they provided internet services in violation of licensing conditions.
To this end, the telecom regulator issued three separate notices to the entities on August 14 asking them to deposit the penalty in ten days.
As per the BTRC notices, all the three companies provided internet connection to entities which were running ISP business without having any BTRC licence.
For the violations, Circle Network, a nationwide internet service provider, was fined Tk 5 lakh, Media and Multimedia, a central zone ISP, was fined Tk 3 lakh and Mega City Link, an ISP with ‘A’ category licence, was fined Tk 1 lakh.
Apart from imposition of the penalty, the BTRC also warned the entities of legal action for any further deviation of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Act, licensing conditions and directives of the commission.
BTRC’s enforcement and inspection directorate assistant director Hazzaz Hossain Helal issued the notices.
