The former wife of Md Mainuddin, whose body was recovered from a hotel of Khulshi in Chittagong early Friday, confessed to the killing, police said.
On Saturday morning, in a press conference, Chittagong Metropolitan Police additional commissioner Amena Begum said this, disclosing the harrowing story.
On August 17, police recovered the throat-slit body of Md Mainuddin alias Shahriar Shuvo, 30, from a hotel room at Khulshi.
He was the son of Md Sirajul Islam of village Balirchar of Chhagalnaiya in Feni.
Later, police arrested the accused, Rokhsana Akhtar Popy, from Alfalah Housing area of Sholoshohor 2 no Gate area.
She is the daughter of Abu Ahmed in Mirsarai and an MBBS third year student of a Chinese medical college.
Police also seized a mobile phone, a black moneybag, a wristwatch and some other materials used by Mainuddin as evidence, said CMP additional commissioner.
In her confession, Popy said to the police that Mainuddin had developed an affair with her six years ago and in 2012 they got married after three years of their relationship.
Due to a family feud, they could not continue their marriage and separated two years later. In 2015, Popy went to China to study medicine.
Quoting her, police said that after their divorce, Mainuddin posted some photos of their private moments on Facebook by creating a fake account.
Popy returned home on August 15 with a plan to kill Mainuddin to take revenge.
On Thursday, she along with Mainuddin rented a room at the motel near Foy’s Lake area, Khulshi. They had their breakfast together Thursday
They went shopping at Sholoshor and bought knife for Eid ul Azha. In the afternoon by that knife, she chopped off Mainuddin’s head, wrapped it in a plastic bag and dumped into the dustbin of
the motel room. She was supposed to go back to China on August 21. Police seized her passport and ticket.
Thursday night, when Lake View Hotel authority went to the room for checking, they saw the body of Mainuddin. Later
Khulshi police recovered it and sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital Morgue.
