Job fair for physically challenged people held in Sylhet

Around 50 physically challenged people were recruited by different institutions in a day-long job fair held in Sylhet city on Saturday.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Post, Tele-Communication and Information Technology Affairs president, Imran Ahmad, inaugurated the programme, Sylhet Job Fair for Persons with Disabilities 2018, as chief guest in the morning.    

Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in association with the Bangladesh Business and Disability Network, Bangladesh Employers Federation and International Labour Organisation, arranged the programme at Aman Ullah Convention Centre at Baluchar in the city, to create job opportunities for physically challenged people and to involve them in the financial development of the country.

SCCI president Khandaker Shipar Ahmad chaired the inaugural session, which was addressed, among others, by Sylhet deputy commissioner Numeri Jaman, Bangladesh Employers Federation president Kamran T Rahman and Bangladesh Skill Development Council’s executive committee co-chairman Salauddin Kashem Khan.

The organisers told New Age that more than 400 job-seekers with physical disabilities participated in the event and around 50 of them had been recruited by different companies.

Twenty institutions, including different industrial units, food production and marketing companies, hotels, hospitals and educational enterprises, participated in the fair venue, they added.
