Worker killed in Cox’s Bazar landslide

A worker died in a landslide while cutting a hill at Poraniapara area of PM Khali union in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday night.
Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Farid Uddin Khandakar said Saiful Alam, in his thirties and worker of a dumper truck, got caught up under a chunk of mud while cutting a hill at about 10:30pm on Thursday.
Other workers, 10 to 12 in number, rushed in and drag him out, but he had breathed his last by that time, said locals adding that the local trader Obaidul Karim is the owner of the truck.
Workers left the place after the fatal accident, the local people said.
Later, local union parished chairman Abdur Rahim informed the Cox’s Bazar police about the incident, who recovered the body and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
A case was filed with the sadar police to this end, said the OC.
